Favorite Beaches

Atlantic Beach

A 15-minute drive from Beaufort, Atlantic Beach is situated on a beautiful barrier island bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Bogue Sound. Atlantic Beach is known for the abundance of public beaches and friendly people.

Emerald Isle

Emerald Isle is further down the barrier island with plenty to explore along the way. Emerald Isle oceanfront provides public accesses and offers plenty of amenities.

Local Islands

Carrot Island

Carrot Island is a very popular adventure for Beaufort visitors and is a short kayak adventure or ferry trip away.

Shackleford Banks

For 400 years, the wild horses of Shackleford Banks have taken care of their young, frolicked on pristine deserted beaches and foraged for food with not a saddle or fence. The horses have enjoyed the protections afforded by Cape Lookout National Seashore in cooperation with the Foundation.

Parks

Cape Lookout Lighthouse

Distinctive for its black and white diamond pattern, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse is the southernmost lighthouse that guards the Outer Banks. The most visited attraction on the refreshingly desolate Cape Lookout National Seashore and accessible by a privately owned boat or ferry.

Freedom Park (In our own backyard)

A short walk, this park is a play area for all ages.

Rachel Carson Reserve

A kayak adventure or ferry trip away

Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge

Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge is on the end of a peninsula marking the southern end of Pamlico Sound. This 14,480-acre refuge consists of a variable landscape of brackish marsh, pocosin and woodland habitats, which are dominated by an abundant variety of birds and wildlife.
